Construction family business head dies in "tragic accident"

Bruce Woolpert, who was chairman, president and chief executive of family-owned Graniterock, which supplies materials to the construction industry, died on 24 June aged 61.

The American family business did not reveal the cause of death, instead describing it as a “tragic accident”, but media reports suggested Woolpert drowned on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in California. An investigation into the circumstances of his death is reportedly underway.

Next-generation takes over family business Grocon

The third-generation of Australia’s Grollo family is set to take over the management of the family business, as second-generation and family patriarch Bruno Grollo is retiring from the development and construction company his father founded 60 years ago.

The company, which is still 100% owned by the founding family and intends to remain private, is best known for building some of Melbourne’s tallest buildings including the Eureka Tower and Rialto Towers.

At the UK’s Business in the Community’s 2011 awards for excellence held on 5 July, the 117-year-old family business was recognised for reducing construction waste and following a green strategy.

The Boston-based business leader and philanthropist served as chairman of EA Fish until his death on Tuesday. Fish was known for his commitment to creating affordable housing alongside the commercial construction projects the business also ran.
